Bedliner entire truck....

Hi all,

I am weeks away from pulling the trigger on having Toff bedliner professionally sprayed on my entire 4Runner. I never plan on selling (Ive already cut this truck up too much to sell).

Anybody have experience with this? Opinions? Pros vs cons?

Ive been researching for about 6 months, but I figured I would throw it out there and see what other information I could get.

Appreciate your thoughts/opinions.

Personally I wouldn't. I'd rather a scratched up truck that I could re-paint later on down the road. I'd consider a vinyl wrap as it would take some of the scratches and stuff without the need for a permanent coating.

i could be wrong, my old neighbor did this to their sequoia. I believe he told me it added a ton of weight. I guess it depends on what you spray it with.

Don't do it.. Looks terrible. Still dents still scratches with hard use. I see very little advantage. I would rather rattle can the truck.

It's not too bad if you just do sections.... Like the bottom 12" or something.

I know a guy with an 80 that did his. Barf...

Also a few jeeps around here. All look terrible.

If you want protection.. do exo/tubes.

I fully spayed black bedliner on my FJ Cruiser. Achieved that fully monochrome BA look. It looked great. Well, for a short while it did. Bedliner holds the dirt and mud and it is impossible to get an even clean. It does hold up and takes a beating. No more pinstripes. But does not age well. It definitely makes it look more run down than it was (is). I would not do again. I used rustoleum bedliner from HD. I am now thinking of starting to sand it all off (if that even can be done) and painting it some color. Maybe just spray color over the bedliner. Oh that will surely look good.

Got a Subaru in the neighborhood that did it, and it looks liek dog shit.

Didn't someone on here put a bunch of it on their 4Runner? I don't think it was the whole vehicle, but it still looked like trash.

Yeah I was gonna say, that textured finish sounds like a nightmare to ever clean.

Just saw a truck the other day that was sprayed entirely with bedliner. Looked like absolute garbage and I can only imagine how ****ing hard it must be to clean, if it can be cleaned at all. Like another poster said, I would rather have a scratched up paintjob that can at least be fixed for the most part with some buffing pads.

If you really want something indestructible I'm pretty sure ICON 4X4 uses a paint that is insanely tough. I remember years ago there was a way to buy it (pretty sure just on their website) but it doesn't look like that any longer. Anyways, this stuff is supposed to be incredible and I have seen it in person and looks beautiful and tough. I'd contact them and see if they'd sell you paint or tell you how/where to get it.

there are plenty of shops that would do that for you.

This has been a fairly common thing to do around my area. If you're offroading, it is pretty great.

Like someone else mentioned (and I forgot). It ages really bad and always looks non uniform when it covers the entire truck. This gets much worse with sun exposure. Sections are OK. Don't do it!

Truck bed liner paint job

If you want an idea of how it wears, look at some truck beds that have it. Sounds like a bad idea to me.

The original paint job on a 5th Gen T4R is really poor. It wouldn't be hard to find a paint that's more durable. Ask your local body shop for some ideas.

As someone suggested above, ask ICON what they used on their T4R. Also ask Domello Off Road what they used on their T4R. They're both in Riverside, CA and work together on ICON lifts. Look at the ICON website photo gallery for 4Runners. They have a couple of examples of tricked out body work where you can see an Oakley "Dream Car" with urban camo grey paint, ICON's T4R and the Domello T4R.
